The only thing worse than seeing the parents die in almost every Disney movie ever made is to see an overrated film from Pixar.
Go ahead – you can fight me on that point, but we all know that Dreamworks produces better films.
If you have ever seen Cars 2, you know that I’ve already won the argument. You can point to movies like Toy Story, Wall-E, or Monster’s Inc., but there’s a Finding Dory, Monster’s University, or Good Dinosaur that counters all of those good vibes.
Let’s Take a Closer Look at Those Dreamworks Movies
Although you can find some downright terrible movies in the Dreamworks catalog, even their duds still provide teachable moments for parents or something innovative.
Let’s use the worst film in the Dreamworks catalog as an example here: Shark Tale. The movie might be full of pop-culture in-jokes, but you still get the overall message that chasing your dreams is something worth pursuing.
If anything, a movie like The Road to El Dorado is worse because the characters are thin, and the story is predictable because it’s been done so many times before.
What you won’t get when you watch Pixar over Dreamworks are the all-time classics. Have you seen any of these movies yet?
- Chicken Run (2000)
- Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005)
- How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014)
- Shrek (2001)
- Captain Underpants (2017)
I get it. Some people like one Pixar movie and become loyal to the brand. If that’s your thing, that’s fine! For me, I’ll stick to Dreamworks any day of the week. They deliver the goods with more consistency.
